The Executive Committee of the Asian Studies Conference Japan (ASCJ)\u00a0invites proposals for panels, roundtables, and individual papers to be\u00a0presented at the Nineteenth Asian Studies Conference Japan. The\u00a0conference will be held on the Shirokane campus of Meiji Gakuin\u00a0University, Tokyo on 20-21 June 2015 (Saturday and Sunday).<\/p>\n

All\u00a0presentations are in English.<\/p>\n

Proposals may be submitted online beginning on 1 September 2014.\u00a0The deadline for proposals is 15 October. Results will be announced in\u00a0December.<\/p>\n

Panels are proposed by individual scholars around a common subject. Panels are composed of up to five participants, three or four paper presenters and one or more discussants. Panel proposals should include a 250 word (maximum) abstract from each participant as well as a 250 word (maximum) statement that explains the session as a whole.<\/p>\n

Roundtables offer an opportunity for participants to discuss a specific\u00a0theme, issue or significant recent publication. A maximum of six active\u00a0participants is recommended. While a roundtable proposal will not be as\u00a0detailed as a panel proposal, it should explain fully the purpose, themes\u00a0or issues, and scope of the session.<\/p>\n

Individual papers give scholars an opportunity to participate in the\u00a0conference even if they are not able to put together a complete panel. Since only a limited number of individual papers can be accommodated,\u00a0preference will be given to junior scholars. Applicants have a better\u00a0chance of acceptance as part of a panel.<\/p>\n

The Executive Committee encourages members to submit proposals that,\u00a0by focusing on more than one region or by drawing on more than one\u00a0discipline, will attract a broad range of scholarly interest. Suggestions for\u00a0innovative alternatives to the panels, individual papers and roundtables\u00a0described above are also encouraged.<\/p>\n

From 2014 the ASCJ initiated a Graduate Student Paper Prize. For details\u00a0on this competition please see the ASCJ webpage. To be considered for\u00a0this prize the student must be enrolled in a degree program at a Japanese\u00a0university and present the paper at ASCJ 2015. The deadline for\u00a0submission of the completed paper is 7 June. The winner will be\u00a0announced at the time of the keynote lecture.<\/p>\n
