The European Taiwan Studies Young Scholar Award (YSA).<\/h2>\n

Eligibility:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. MA students who present papers at regular EATS panels, Ph.D. candidates, Post-Doctoral researchers.<\/li>\n
  2. Candidates currently based at European institutions.<\/li>\n
  3. EATS board members are not eligible to apply.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Paper evaluation criteria: relevance to the field, originality, clarity of methodology, quality of the expression, clarity of source and respect for rules of quotation.<\/p>\n

    Papers should be written in English; only single-authored papers will be accepted. Papers should preferably be un-published; however, candidates may submit papers that are under review for publication in a scholarly journal at the time of the 2014 EATS conference. Each applicant may submit only one paper between 7000 to 9000 words (including bibliography and notes), with a one-page abstract. The copy should include the author\u2019s full name, institution, and address.<\/p>\n

    The YSA review committee will nominate 3-5 finalists. Nominees will be invited to Portsmouth to attend the 2014 EATS conference where their papers will be presented during a special session in which the winners will be formally announced. The winners of the YSA will be honored with the award of a certificate and modest monetary prizes.<\/p>\n

    It is expected that candidates who submit papers for the consideration of Young Scholar Award are or will be regis-tered as EATS members by the time of the 2014 EATS conference.<\/p>\n

    The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 December 2013. Please upload an A-4 ONE PAGE (500) word abstract\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0and mark the yes-option in the drop down menu \u201cI want to apply for The European Taiwan Studies Young Scholar Award\u201d and please send a copy of your abstract to the following email: info@eats-taiwan.eu . By the end of February 2014 you will be notified if your abstract has been accepted. The full paper is then to be submitted by April 10 2014.<\/p>\n

    About EATS<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) was established at SOAS in 2004 with the objective of developing Taiwan studies not only in the UK, but also in other European countries. By holding regular conferences we aim to increase the interaction between European based researchers working in Taiwan studies and to raise the profile of Taiwan Studies in Europe. The EATS Conference is held at a different European country each year and has now become the largest Taiwan Studies academic event in Europe. Conferences have been held in the UK, Germany, France, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Spain. EATS is now an independent legally registered association managed by an international committee. The Association has been instrumental in the rapid development of Taiwan Studies research, teaching and publication over the last decade.<\/p>\n

    The European Association of Taiwan Studies has been supported by the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation.<\/p>\n
