Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this paper the author scans the registers of correspondence relating to\u00a0Brunei (1906\u201334) held in the National Archives at Kew. An annotated\u00a0checklist of documents is provided. It is concluded that useful data can be\u00a0yielded; and that, in a case such as Brunei, where documentation is in short\u00a0supply, no potential source of information should be neglected. The exercise\u00a0raises issues about the preservation of historical records. Suggestions for\u00a0further research are provided.<\/p>\n

Author’s bio<\/strong><\/p>\n

AVM Horton, formerly an Honorary Fellow of the Centre for South-East Asian Studies, University of Hull is a specialist in the history of Brunei. He is a regular contributor to Borneo Research Bulletin and Asian Analysis (ANU online). Currently Dr Horton is undertaking research on the forestry administration in Brunei and the \u2018Top Hundred Persons of Power and Influence in Brunei\u2019 in 2006.<\/p>\n
