Hardina Ohlendorf

Hardina Ohlendorf is a lecturer in the Social Science Division of Mahidol University International College (MUIC), Thailand, and a Research Associate at the Centre of Taiwan Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She received her PhD in Political Science from SOAS, University of London. Prior to moving to Thailand, she worked as a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Politics of China at SOAS and was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica, with the Taiwan Fellowship. In her research, she looks at the politics of area studies, cultural and political aspects of Cross-Strait tourism, and Chinese identities in Southeast Asia. Her publications include “The Taiwan Dilemma in Chinese Nationalism: Taiwan Studies in the People’s Republic of China,” Asian Survey, 2014, Vol. 54 (3), 471–491. The research for this paper was funded by the Research Grant for Foreign Scholars in Chinese Studies and the Taiwan Fellowship of the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
