Sumanto Al Qurtuby

Sumanto Al Qurtuby is Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Chair of Scientific Research Committee in the Department of General Studies at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. A Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the Middle East Institute of National University of Singapore, Sumanto obtained his PhD from Boston University. His research interests include the study of Muslim politics and cultures, Arabia-Southeast Asia relations, and the role the religion plays in conflict, violence, peace and public affairs. Sumanto Al Qurtuby has published numerous publications (books, journal articles, op-eds, etc.), both in English and Bahasa Indonesia. The most recent book he published is Religious Violence and Conciliation in Indonesia: Christians and Muslims in the Moluccas (London and New York: Routledge, 2016). He is now completing a book manuscript (will be forthcoming from I. B. Tauris in 2018) titled Saudi Arabia and Indonesian Networks: Education, Migration and Islam.
